I like a vast variety of music,
from the classics to contemporary.
What I don't like is: most country and grunge.

Philosophically speaking, here is what I think about music: It has healing powers; it can be a positive and inspiring influence, it provides us a way to express feeling.

As far as Popular music in America today goes: There are two types: positive and negative, and they are based on the type of message the written word has. I have listened to some of the rap songs with all the cursing in them and then listened to the same piece without the words. The effects are different, especially if you do not remember the words as often happens with me.

Were I to Be an instrument, I would want to be a piano. It is an instrument that can be played by its self or be a part of any type of group, as a lead or as a companion. It can compliment any one instrument or voice at many ranges. It has been an instrument that has evolved since its conception from a simple toy to quite the serious, or delightful instrument.

The instruments that speak to me the most are the guitar and piano. These two because of the range of music that can be played with them. Both are very expressive instruments in their own way, enabling the emotions of the player to come through. I, also have a lot of respect for the voice as an instrument. For many, it is the only way they can get close to creating music. I also see that our voice can be the voice of Spirit.

My earliest memories of music are watching my mother listening to music as it was playing on her phonograph or the radio. I noticed how much she enjoyed the music. She would be singing and dancing throughout the house. She loved to dance. I guess that rubbed off on me since I love to dance. Eventually, around age 6 or 7 yrs, because of my mothers influence, I started watching artists, bands and such on TV like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, Pedro Infante, and Lucho Gatica etc.
At eleven years of age I went to a school whose emphasis was music, but mixed with academics. I was assigned the violin as my primary instrument. I was not happy with it because I wanted to learn to play the piano. I did learn to read and transpose music but after six years of learning to play violin, I can proudly say that a cat could play it better than I did. I did not do well at the piano either, thus, after graduating from the school, I stopped trying to play an instrument and went off to college.
Even after that, Music has continued to be a major part of my life through dance and just the pleasure of listening. I also go to concerts including seeing Green Day, Neil Diamond and Santana all in a two week period recently. My first concert was The Young Rascals when they played in Puerto Rico in the late 60's.

On the question of whether I believe that music has been playing a part in the change of consciousness on the planet right now: Yes, it IS playing and will continue to play a big part in this change because it can reach such large groups of people. Music and sound are everywhere and are powerful elements within the human psyche. We can react to music in a positive or negative way in a particular moment, depending on the tone and words to a song.
There have been experiments where people hold a cassette or CD of grunge or similar music close to their heart with one arm extended. They have been told to resist as hard as they can when someone tries to push their extended arm down. It is easy for the other person to move the arm. When this is done holding a cassette or CD of any type of positive music, the other person has a very hard time or can not move the arm from its position.

On the topic of music and children: As a former day care provider and a mother of four I observed first hand the effects of music on children. Music can be very soothing, calming and joyful for children. I could see that even from birth, music affects the moods of children.

On the topic of Music and Healing: Music has the vibration tones that affect different areas of the body including the aura or energetic body.

On Music's intimate partner, Dance: To me Dance is another expression of Spirit. For those that cannot sing or play an instrument like myself this is a natural way of connecting with music and its healing powers.

On the matter of the consolidation of radio stations by large corporations and conglomerates, I feel that we have lost the ability to communicate freely, to explore ideas and the truth without limitations set my owners and the FCC.
